So sleepy

Bil: WOW! Look! The bed magically made itself!
Me: I know! I love it when that happens!
Bil: If you got up earlier I'd be happy to make the bed in the morning.
Me: I'm sleeping for two.

Little Bil

Today Raviv asked to change his shoes. It is not even 9 am. Bil must be so proud!

Mini Fashionista!

Bil: Look what I bought Raviv today! Skinny Jeans!!!

How fast can a turtle run?

The morning scene: Bil and I rushing around the kitchen and back and forth to our cars getting ready for the day.

Bil: You left the door open!
me: For one second!
Bil: Tuli and Shae could have gotten out. It is supposed to rain all day.
Me: I was only gone for one second.
Bil: They're cats, not turtles!

Thirsty?

Bil: What's that cheesy cup?
Me: It is from daycare. Raviv took it for the ride home
Bil (with a sneer): Well, don't forget it tomorrow
Me: I won't. I'm sorry it offends you. Would you like me to put it in my car now?
Bil: No, I'd like you to drive it back to daycare now
Me: HA!
Bil: I'm not laughing...

How many miles was that?

Bil: I want ice cream
I give him a look
Bil: I can have ice cream if I want! I went to the gym!
Me: Today?
Bil: No. But I could have.

Vacation?

Just got back from a great vacation. But day 1 was hard. Both Raviv and my grandmother were stuck to me all day. Of course, as we get into bed this is the conversation:

Bil: This was such a relaxing day!

Clean?

I opened the washing machine door to add a few more things, and find all the towels have been moved to the dryer

Me: Oh, thanks for washing the towels
Bil: I didn't
Me: Then why are they in the dryer
Bil: Oh, I thought they had been cleaned
Me: didn't you realize they were dry when you moved them?
Bil: I thought they had just been in there a really long time.

It's for you....

Raviv likes things that beep. Especially cordless phones

Bil (getting annoyed with the constant beeping): He's obsessed with the phone! How do we get him to stop?*

*note- this was said WHILE Bil was playing with his phone for the last hour.

Karma

Last weekend we flew from Hartford to San Francisco via Chicago. Our Hartford pilot overslept so we missed our connection in Chicago and ended up going through Seattle. This is what happened on plane to Seattle (Bil was seated in an aisle in row 10, I was in a middle in row 14):

Me (to woman in aisle of row 14): Excuse me, my husband has a aisle seat in ro-
Woman: My husband is right there (across aisle)
Me: Ok, but-
Woman: I'm not switching
Gentleman (in window row 14): I'll switch with him if you like
Me: That would be great!

switch seats.

Me: In my head- HAHA! gleeful at the woman's face when she realizes she is next to a squirmy toddler!

Raviv was excellent during the flights. He handled it much better than Bil and I did!

Woof

While watching the opening credits for "The Real Housewives of NYC" (which we had never seen before)

Bil: How can you be a real housewife if you only have a dog?

Monday, May 17, 2010

Bull's eye!

at a bar....

Bil: I'm going to play darts with L.
Me: I thought we were going to play darts?
Bil: Play with us.
Me: But I'm not very good.
Bil: That's okay. You can be on L's team.

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Shhh

Me: You know, if you just told me what was bothering you instead of giving me the silent treatment it would be a lot more efficient
Bil: I'm not giving you the silent treatment. I'm just not talking to you.

Happy Mother's Day

Bil: Should we go Boston on Sunday (Mother's day)?
Me: No, I don't really want to
Bil: Well, I do
Me: Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you pushed Raviv out of your vagina.

Update..

When I went to toss something into the garbage today, I noticed not one, but TWO empty Friendly's containers.

Looks like Bil and Justin worked it out.

Priorities

It is 9:07 pm. I'm still at work frantically writing with my proposal team mates. Bil is at home, finishing up a meeting with Justin, the Board President of the school Bil Runs. My phone rings:

Me: Hello?
Bil: Hey, where are you?
Me: Still at work
Bil: When will you be home?!
Me: I don't know, late
Bil: But I want Friendly's Ice Cream
Me: Well, maybe Justin can babysit Raviv while you go get some
Bil: He's not going to do that.
Me: Well then I guess you'll just have to find some way to pull through
Bil: Bye (with a pout, I'm sure)

Three cute stories and a goss one

1) Yesterday Raviv started getting upset as Bil gathered up his bags to head to work. When Bil leaned over to kiss him goodbye Raviv reached up to be held. Bil picked him up, Raviv smiled and waved "bye-bye" to me. Guess he wanted to go to work.

2) While getting ready for bed, one of the cats snuggled up to Raviv. She tried to cuddle up ON Raviv. Every time she stepped on him he giggled. It was a little like poking the Pillsbury dough boy.

3) While at a cafe with a friend (who was doing some emergency babysitting for us) my dad walked by. Raviv lit up and got so excited to see his grandfather. It is neat to see that Raviv is able to recognize people even when out of context.

Raviv has started to become adept at shape sorting. Unfortunately his favorite item to sort is his finger into my nostril. It's a perfect fit.

Is that a Kia on your wrist?

This past weekend Bil and I were confronted with the decision of whether or not to buy a new car or make significant repairs to one we have.

Me: John is trying to sell me a Vibe
Bil: A what?
Me: A Pontiac Vibe
Bil: Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know anything that starts with "Pontiac"

We're keeping the Volvo.

The conversation reminded me of when we were looking at designing my wedding ring. Our Jeweler tried to sell Bil a nice (meaning $$$) watch. This was the conversation:

Jeweler: What kind of car do you drive?
Bil: A Passat
Jeweler: Then why are you wearing a Kia on your wrist?

Bil was wearing a Kenneth Cole.

Refreshing

Overheard at the airport:

When I woke up, I realized that my mom grabbed my water bottle filled with Vodka from last night as she left for the gym.

Weapons and Babies

On the shuttle from the airport to the hotel- which is a suite. We booked a suite so we wouldn't have to sit in a dark room when Raviv falls asleep at 7. On the shuttle there is a marine who just got back from Afghanistan.

Marine: A shower will feel so good
Me: How long has it been?
Marine: Since the 20th.
Me: That explains the smell (but I didn't say this out loud)
Marine: I love this hotel. There is a place to put my weapons
Me: I love this hotel. There is a place to put my baby.
Marine: (staring out the window) I missed grass.

Slurp

In a hotel in Washington DC. Concerned about sharing a room with Raviv-
Me: Should we move him (to the living room part of the suite)?
Bil: Why?
hearing Raviv breath heavily
Me: That's why
Bil: I'd be more concerned about the slurping (when he sucks his fingers). But it will be cute. And we'll know he's alive.

Dry clean only please!

I'm giving Raviv a bath, when Bil walks in. I leave and get his laundry basket and start walking downstairs...

Bil: Where are you going?
Me: To put Raviv's clothes in the laundry
Bil: Aren't you going to take him out of the bath?
Me: You can do it, you're standing right there!
Bil: NO! I'll get wet!
Me: Fine, then I'll take him out of the tub and you can start his laundry
Bil: I didn't realize everything had to be task oriented.
Me: Someone has to do it
Bil: Yeah, you.

to be fair, the last comment was said in jest. To be more fair, I did end up doing all the childcare tasks this evening. Lucky for me Raviv is too cute for words!

But I'm hungry!

This morning I was driving Raviv to daycare, as usual. I hear some rustling in the back seat, it sounds like he somehow got a hold of something plastic. I look for a place to pull over but it stops. I can hear him breathing and making normal noises, so I assume he hasn't suffocated, and we are mere moments from his daycare.

When I open the back door to get him out of his seat, I see him eating my sandwich. He gives me a big crummy smile and takes another bite!

Apparently my purse was left on the seat close enough to him that he could reach it. Guess he was hungry.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Would you like an up-do?

this evening while giving Raviv a bath...

Bil: Okay, you're right. Raviv's hair is getting too long.
Me: Hand me your scissors
Bil: What are you going to do?
Me: Trim the front so it is out of his eyes.
Bil: NO! You're not a styl- a barbaress!

Friday, March 12, 2010

big momma's house?

Bil: Did you notice the crack along the counter in the downstairs bathroom?
Me: Yeah. It is from the house settling
Bil: What do you mean?
Me: You know, it is a new house, and the weight of the house makes it settle
Bil: Are you saying we're fat?

New York New York!!!

While skyping with Sean who is in Australia

Sean: What are you guys doing next weekend?
Bil: We're going to New York
Sean: Why? A wedding or something?
Bil: No, we just want to introduce Raviv to New York
Me: Yeah, except we're leaving Raviv in New Jersey with dad and Omi.

No cell service

Yesterday I had the perfect plan-
Nap 9-10
Music class 10-11
Meet my aunt for lunch in West Hartford. Noon

What happened:
We had a long nap (10:30), which was going to make us late for music. I panic getting out the door- Unplug cell phone, clean up from breakfast (I'll wash the dishes later) throw stuff in the diaper bag, throw laundry in the dryer, throw Raviv into the car. Go to call Bil to tell him we're on our way. Where is my phone?

Get Raviv out of the car. Run into the house. Search the counter, search the bedrooms. Can't find phone. Run around the house. Oh, crap, is it in the dryer? Open dryer. Pull out all the clothes. No phone (phew). Still can't find it.

Normally I wouldn't care about not having a phone, but I was going to be crossing state lines and wanted the security of my phone (not in the phone-as-security-blanket way Bil views his, but in the stranded-on-the-highway-with-baby way.)

I try to call it but it is off. That's funny, I always leave it on. Still looking. Notice our milk is on the counter. Go to put it in the fridge, and AHA! The phone is in the fridge. Where the milk should be. Apparently our fridge does not get cell service.

Miss music, but make it to lunch only 10 minutes late.

Let there be light!

The scene- Bil is giving Raviv a bath and getting him ready for bed. I am downstairs, when suddenly I remember:

Me: Bil! You got a package in the mail!
Bil: I did?!
Me: Yeah, a big box, but very light
Bil: OH! I bet it is the light bulbs!
Me: This is a big box for light bulbs.
Thundering footsteps down the stairs.
Me: Where is Raviv's shirt?
Bil hands me dripping baby
Bil: I couldn't find one. This is more important!

apparently the light bulbs are for our newish dining room light. They are somewhat orange and are designed to give off a dimmer light than the current bulbs.

Bil: They don't fit!

Bil pouts and I put Raviv to bed.

Can you hear me?

Note: Raising ones voice does not help people of a different linguistic background suddenly understand English. Nor does raising your voice help a toddler understand you better.

Pink Lemonade

In honor of Bil's new sweater, which arrived from Penguin the other day and had it's inaugural wearing today, I am setting the background to "Pink Lemonade." Because yes, this is the color of the sweater.

But it actually looked good on him.

Mommy brain attacks again

I just published my post to the wrong blog :(

In other shoe news, while I got my cheap, boys sneakers Bil got a fancy pair of Cole Haan shoes. But as he made clear:

Bil: these were an amazing deal
Me: yeah. 50% off, right?
Bil: yes, but 50% off OUTLET prices. If these were on Newbury street, they would be outrageous
Me (in my head): but they are in the outlet because they are no longer stylish for Newbury street. And they still cost $$$.

Later

Bil: And I got an amazing deal on socks! I got three pairs, for five dollars!
Me: Wow! That is a good deal!
Bil: Well, $5 each.

Anyway, we went to the outlets to get shoes for Raviv. Everyone left with shoes EXCEPT Raviv.

Running and weight loss

A few weeks ago (months?) the New York Times published an article about why running does not automatically lead to weight loss. It basically suggests that when we exercise, we are hungrier and eat more, thus negating the benefit of exercise for weight loss (not that there aren't plenty of other reasons to exercise). This has been the case for me. In fact, I think I might be GAINING weight.

Yesterday I went for my weekly long run. I ran nearly 8 miles and felt good the whole way. Plus, my pace is getting quicker (which is how I ended up going nearly 8 instead of the 6-7 I thought I went). But today I woke up with a headache and LOOK OUT KITCHEN! I have eaten everything I can get my hands on. If it isn't toxic, it has been consumed. I'm just now starting to feel more satiated and less physically drained.

Also- I decided that every month I stay on track I will reward myself with new running gear. At the end of January I bought the VFFs. Today we were at the outlets and I went into the Nike store. While I was there I wanted to try on a pair of Nike Frees. These shoes are more structured than the VFFs, but less than a traditional running shoe. They didn't have any in stock, but they did have the boys Nike Free Playground. They are ugly, and may not work for running, but I haven't been able to do long runs in the VFFs (I do wear them for outdoor runs less than 3 miles). I'll try them sometime this week. Luckily they were quite on sale, so even if they don't work out I won't be too upset.

What should I post?

Me: What should I post about you?
Bil: That you're going to Friendly's to get me a Reeses peanut butter cup frenzy
Me: I'm not going to do that.

Later

Bil: What are you doing (watching me post)...Oh, which you didn't (get me a frenzy). You can still go get it if you want
Me: Nope.
Bil: Mean, mean, mean!

Enough said.

What do babies need?

Post bath Raviv gets to run around naked for a little while. Or he did until this happened:

Me: OH NO!!!!
Bil: What?
(silence)
Me: Can I have the carpet cleaner?
Bil: Why? What happened, did the cat throw up?
Me: no. Don't come in here.
(Bil comes in)
Bil: EEEWWW! What happened?
Me (trying to make excuses): Raviv doesn't usually poop at night. You know he likes to poop standing up. It wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't sat in it.

(me scrubbing floor)

Bil: What is Raviv?
Me: A baby
Bil: And what do babies need?
Me: Love
Bil: And....
Me: food
Bil: yes, and...
Me: Diapers.
Bil: Thank you.

Clothing or diapers?

me: I think we should cancel our diaper service and just do it ourselves
Bil: No. You got me used to this system. I don't like the other kinds of diapers (pocket)
me: We'll save about $1000 over the next year
Bil: OH! for $1000 to my clothing allowance, I'll learn!
Me: um.....
